Archbishop Aldo Cavalli

Archbishop Aldo Cavalli was born in Muggianico di Lecco, Italy on October 18, 1946. He entered seminary for
the diocese of Bergamo and was ordained a priest on March 18, 1971. After ordination, he taught literature at
the Seminary for several years, while pursuing studies in political and social sciences. He began his studies in
diplomacy in 1975 at the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy, and upon completion in 1979, started his career in
the diplomatic service of the Holy See.
Archbishop Cavalli’s diplomatic service on behalf of the Vatican took him all over the world, including as
Apostolic Nuncio to Angola, Chile, Columbia, Malta, Libya, and the Netherlands.
On November 27, 2021, Pope Francis appointed him Apostolic Visitor to the parish of Medjugorje. This is a
continuation of the mission carried out by the previous Apostolic Visitor to Medjugorje, Archbishop Henryk
Hoser, S.A.C., who died on August 13, 2021.
